Functions and special features of Baidu as a search engine

Baidu is not only THE search engine in China, but is also active in other areas.

For example, Baidu AI-powered taxis, or self-driving taxis from Baidu, are already cruising the streets in selected test areas in China. There are now even vehicles without human safety drivers who could intervene in an emergency.

Baidu is also a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence. Baidu is also active in the field of language processing, more specifically NLP (Natural Language Processing), and has provided the answer to Google's BERT with ERNIE. But Open AI's chatGPT and Google's BARD have also faced competition from ERNIE Bot.


But back to web searches. The Chinese internet, especially in private settings, is almost exclusively mobile. Whether on the subway, on the street, or at home – people have their smartphones firmly in their grasp and are swiping through the various offerings.

Social media apps like WeChat are particularly popular, but when it comes to news from China and the world, only a filtered portion of it is displayed. This simply isn't enough to keep you up to date.
