Scan for digital (home) working

Post by arzina566 »

Now, in recent weeks, an infinite amount has been published about how people can best do their work now that they are more or less condemned to the kitchen table, the bedroom or a corner in the attic. We have contributed to that ourselves . But many of those publications were about technology, about practical tips and tricks, about past experiences and expectations for the future. All interesting and valuable, but until recently we lacked some more substantiated information.

Various studies
Fortunately, several studies have emerged in recent weeks to bring this information to light:

For example, Binnenlands Bestuur conducted a survey among 6,000 civil servants, which showed that women get tired more quickly than men .
A study by a healthcare platform shows that “It is not the stressed parents of school-going children, but millennials living alone who struggle most with working from home as a result of the corona crisis .”
Others repeat their research regularly , thus providing insight into how people deal with the situation over time.
And yet another study shows that half of SMEs had no tools for working from home and around eighty percent did not inform their staff about security.
Some of these studies were very in-depth and israel telegram data focused, for example, on what the corona crisis and working from home are doing to them psychologically and emotionally. Other initiatives opted for a more technical approach and shed light on which tools people use, how that works, what pitfalls there may be, and so on.

We have tried to fill the space between these two approaches, because in our daily practice we operate precisely in the area in between, where the needs and expectations of employees, organization, technology and physical environment come together .

In addition, we especially wanted to look at the similarities and differences between participating organizations and between different types of employees. We have already gained interesting insights there, but in the coming weeks we want more participants in our research so that we can say more about this, even better founded.

We developed our research together with a number of organisations from our network: an energy network operator, one of the largest universities in the Netherlands, a number of smaller commercial agencies, and two Flemish hospitals. The design is aimed at:

Mapping how well (or how badly) working from home is actually going during the corona crisis.
Keep a close eye on the situation in the coming period as various measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 are relaxed.
In the longer term, to maintain insight into how organizations can increasingly support and facilitate their employees .
The name of this research: ThuiswerkScan/DigitalWorkScan. Why this double name? Because on the one hand we want to gain insights into how working from home is going during this period, but at the same time we also see that there are valuable lessons to be learned about digital working that are also relevant for the longer term. And in addition, working from home and digital working are not always the same.
