4. Check attic ventilation and insulation

Trim overhanging branches: Make sure all branches near the roof are trimmed to a safe distance. This will reduce the risk of them causing damage during storms or when ice and snow accumulate.
Remove dead or dying trees: If you have any trees that are dead or in poor health, consider removing them. Unhealthy trees can easily fall over during a storm, posing a risk to your roof and home.

Proper attic ventilation and insulation are necessary components to keeping us number details your roof in good condition during the winter. Without adequate ventilation, warm air can rise into the attic, melting snow on the roof and forming ice dams when it refreezes at the edge of the roof. Ice dams can prevent proper drainage and can cause leaks.

5. Seal any roof leaks or weak areas
Water that enters through cracks or gaps in your roof can cause tremendous damage over time. Therefore, pay special attention to the areas around chimneys and skylights, as these are common leak points. Also, check roof valleys and vents for damaged flashing that could cause leaks, and seal any gaps or cracks with appropriate materials, such as roof caulking.
