Arne Jacobsen: designer of Ants
Behind every successful company there are usually important names and prominent personalities. This is no different in the case of Fritz Hansen, where, in addition to the founders, the young and talented designer Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) significantly influenced the fate of the company.
In 1934, Fritz Hansen began working with the jamaica telemarketing list architect Kaar Klint and the then very young and talented Arne Jacobsen. The famous Ant chair was created , which Jacobsen designed for the Bellevue Theater restaurant in Klampenborg. Ant was the first and still the most famous chair that Arne Jacobsen designed. It is stackable, with a simple seat and backrest. It originally had three legs, but a four-legged version also began to be produced at the same time.
Its author, architect and designer Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen into the family of a wealthy merchant. Even during his studies, he showed an extraordinary talent for drawing and his creativity was unmistakable. After a short experience as a sailor and bricklayer, Arne Jacobsen applied to the Copenhagen Technical University, where he successfully completed his studies in 1924. He then studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy under Professor Kaar Klint. It was he who had a decisive influence on Arne Jacobsen's further professional direction.
Danish design on the world map
As early as 1925, the talented young architect was awarded a silver medal at the Paris World Exhibition, and in 1929, at the age of twenty-seven, he won the Copenhagen Architecture Exhibition with his ultra-modern concept for the House of the Future. His long-standing friendship and collaboration with another of the driving forces of Nordic design, Fritz Hansen, put Danish design, which was little known at the time, on the world design map. Arne Jacobsen's designs literally sparked a technical revolution in the field of seating furniture in their time.
The result of the collaboration is beautiful,
