A conference to learn new skills in project management

Post by nurnobi24 »

Project management is a distinct skill and career path that shares many similarities with the general goals of management. However, with project management there is a set start and end date for the project.

The project has a specific objective that is different from the typical tasks of that organization or team. Project management often presents different challenges because project teams may be comprised of people who do not normally work together to complete unique tasks.

The International Project Management Association (IPMA) virtually hosted its 9th annual research conference, IPMA Hackdays , on June 12-13, 2021. The conference featured a variety of keynote speakers and workshops throughout the conference addressing challenges and advancements in the project management field.

Technological advancements are revolutionizing the way many industries work, and project management is no different. Recent updates in machine learning and artificial job seekers database intelligence (AI) have changed many aspects of project management. One of the key interests of AI in project management is the ability to estimate the duration and allocation of resources throughout the project. The use of AI can drastically reduce waste as well as accelerate the progression of projects. AI can also help project managers detect risks at an early stage so they can be addressed before they jeopardize the success of the project.

In a previous post, IPMA reported that more than half of project managers see widespread adoption of AI in the industry within the next 5 years. The organization has also previously hosted multiple events and conferences on the future of AI in the field.

Another area that was intensively discussed during the conference was the idea of sustainability in project management. Sustainable development involves many areas, not only the environment, but also economic, social and human interests. The United Nations Brundtland Commission in 1987 defined sustainable development as, “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

In project management, sustainable development is a popular topic as it does not only refer to the most effective and efficient way to manage people, resources and organizations. In order to meet certain needs and standards throughout the project timeline, it only makes sense to create a sustainability plan appropriate to the project's principal. Many successful project managers create an in-depth analysis of the intersection of economic, environmental and social impacts that their project will have. Many of the conference speakers covered different sustainable development topics such as sustainability analysis and the impact a community can have on development. IPMA has multiple resources on the importance and challenges of incorporating sustainability into project management.
