Huang Kunming, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee , said more efforts should be made to promote digital industrialization and industrial digital transformation to build a prosperous digital economy with data as a key element.
Huang, who is also head of the CPC Central Committee's Publicity Department, made the remarks Saturday via video link at the opening ceremony of the fifth Digital China Summit, which ended Sunday in Fuzhou, Fujian province.
Noting that significant progress has been made in building a digital China since the 18th CPC National Congress, he stressed the need to make new breakthroughs in core technologies and open up new prospects in infrastructure construction.

China's digital economy is entering a new stage of development, with its market size reaching 45.5 trillion yuan ($6.74 trillion) last year, the second largest in the world after the United States, according to a report released by the Cyberspace Administration of China at a two-day summit.

The country has also built the world's largest 5G network to date, with more than 1.85 million 5G base stations and 455 million 5G mobile subscribers as of June, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Wang Zhiqin, vice president of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, a government think tank, said building a reliable telecommunications infrastructure will lay a solid foundation for the high-quality development of China's digital economy.
"Previously, China's digital economy was driven mainly by consumer-oriented Internet applications such as e-commerce, but now business-oriented applications such as the industrial Internet are playing a much larger role, indicating an improvement in the structure of the digital economy," Wang said.
