Tip 2: Start broad, and optimize during the campaign
Martine recommends starting your LinkedIn ad campaign broadly, with different target groups. As the campaign progresses, you can see which audiences respond best and then optimize the campaign to 'best performing.'
Tip 3: Use LinkedIn's Self Service Ad Tool
Martine says that you can use the self-service ad tool to 'peek' at which target groups there are possible within LinkedIn. She also recommends looking at an 'inventory check:' which shows whether many ads have already been sold within a certain target group.
If there is a group for the topic that is very relevant to the message of your ads, you can already do research in that group by using the stats infographics. Each LinkedIn group has an infographic with information about the group activity, how many people from certain industries are members of the group, the number of people and the growth of the group. Martine gives some good tips on using those infographics in the video.

More than 7 out of 10 internet users are active on social media. This means that the world has more than 1.5 billion social networkers. The vast majority of these people have a Facebook account. Almost everyone in the world knows Facebook by now (I find it strange that there are still people who don't know Facebook ). Twitter is known by 80% and Google+ is also very well-known (70%). Twitter and Google+ show the same phenomenon: very well-known, but relatively low penetration. In addition, the use of Google+ is also lower than Twitter.
2. Rapid growth of smartphones accelerates social media use
In most countries in the study, smartphone use has increased significantly over the past year. In most countries, almost everyone also has an internet subscription for that mobile device. Belgium is (unfortunately) the exception to the rule. The rise of mobile internet is causing an increase in the use of social media. People with mobile internet are more frequent and intensive users of the social web.
