Meta's text-based social network has uncovered a new strategy to expand amid the latest X-linked advertiser-related crisis.
After a period of decline, Meta's social network, Threads , luxembourg number screening experienced a remarkable rebound, surpassing X (formerly known as Twitter) in downloads on the App Store and Google Play.
According to TechCrunch , Threads recorded 41 million downloads last week, surpassing X ’s 27 million downloads . Meta capitalized on Instagram’s growth in India, adding 9.2 million new downloads in the country.
These numbers also include downloads of the emerging markets version of X , Twitter Lite, which has not yet been rebranded and could be receiving additional downloads while users are still searching for the app by its old name, “ Twitter .”

On the other hand, X has lost traction in terms of growth following its rebrand. In September, X added “formerly Twitter” to its App Store description to improve its visibility in searches for the keyword “Twitter .” This change followed a decline in weekly active users and rankings following the rebrand, Sensor Tower reported at the time.
Threads ' rally could be further boosted by its upcoming launch in Europe, where the app is expected to hit its launch milestones.
Despite this, X remains a larger platform than Threads , retaining many of its users and avoiding a full migration to new platforms. X boasts over 500 million monthly active users, while Threads reported nearly 100 million in Meta ’s most recent earnings report in October.
