In this article, the targeted construction of the political image of states is actualized as the central problem of the modern era of mediatized society. The main threats and challenges to the image potential of the Russian Federation are brought to the forefront. The problem of development and implementation of the policy of "soft power" in Russia is considered. Within the framework of the conducted study, assessments of the political image of the Russian Federation formed in the mass media of China, the USA and Germany are analyzed. Based on the information received, possible options for solving image-forming problems are developed and proposed. The proposed measures will allow solving a number of challenges and threats that the Russian Federation faces in the era of global information confrontation.
