The main barrier between beinThe frenetic and absolutely unstoppable evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) makes the regulation of trendy technology absolutely urgent. This is the opinion of Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, Google's parent company. " We need international rules to regulate the use of artificial intelligence . That is why we should think about a legal framework of a transatlantic nature or go further and draw up a global regulatory framework," says Pichai in an interview with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung .

Alphabet's CEO also praised the EU's Artificial Intelligence Act . "In its current form, this law strikes a good balance between innovation and responsible safeguards. This balance should be preserved as we engage in the necessary legislative process to regulate AI," Pichai emphasises.

EU and EU member state negotiators agreed on the Artificial Intelligence Act in December 2023 after long and tedious negotiations. And at the beginning of February this year, representatives of EU member states also gave the green light to the law. Now the law must be approved by the European Parliament.

In the future, AI systems will have to be categorised into different risk groups as planned by this law . And the greater the potential risk attached to AI applications, the more stringent the requirements they will have to meet. The hope is that the EU Artificial Intelligence Act will be a mirror in which other regulations directly related to AI will look.

Asked about the potentially corrosive impact of AI on the world of work and the eventual destruction of jobs by this technology, Pichai rejects the most dire predictions in this regard. “I think AI will create new jobs,” Pichai predicts.

For example, people will be needed to “come up with the right responses to large language models. In this sense, a completely new type of profession will emerge. However, some jobs will obviously be replaced by AI. This is why w cameroon whatsapp list e need to work as a society on education and training to ensure that employees are subjected to retraining sessions when necessary. I think we should strive to put safety nets in place,” Pichai emphasises.

In recent days , Google , Sundar Pichai's company, has found itself in the eye of the storm over AI. The Mountain View company was forced to temporarily suspend the generation of images on Gemini , its AI chatbot, after it reproduced "a series of inaccuracies in some historical representations." Google had to admit its "mea culpa" last Thursday for a series of images born from the womb of Gemini that showed, for example, American parents as racialized people and Vikings as a black people.
