It is important to note that if the data type and the data do not match, the data type will be ignored. For example, if you have rows of data that contain “ABC” and you set the data type to “Decimal Number,” the data cannot be formatted as a decimal number and the data type will not be applied.

Please note that data type settings are only available for visual calculations, not for fields or measures, as their data type can only be set in the model.

In August, Power BI launched a new feature called visual-level formatting chains. This tool allows users to customize the formatting of fields and measures directly in visuals, overriding any predefined formatting in the model. This makes it easier to get the desired formatting in a faster and more flexible way.
