AI tops the list of skills workers most want to acquire in 2024

Gaining new knowledge is vital for workers, who mostly refuse to hold on to a job if learning is left out of the equation. And among the skills that employees value most in 2024 is artificial intelligence (AI), which is not in vain the most popular technology of the moment and also houses within itself a plethora of opportunities in the workplace.

According to Randstad’s global report “Workmonitor 2024” , around half of employees define themselves as ambitious, and a very similar proportion reject this definition. However, and despite the fact that many employees have no interest in climbing the corporate ladder, the majority, 72%, place a lot of value on learning new skills.

Not surprisingly, 29% of workers would even quit their jobs if they did not receive adequate learning and professional development opportunities.

However, the value employees place on training and career development opportunities varies widely across industries. Employees in the technology, construction and financial services industries are most likely to decline a job that does not offer sufficient learning and development opportunities.

AI is the most desired skill for workers in 2024
As employee priorities have changed significantly in recent years, “training, learning cameroon whatsapp lead and development have become increasingly relevant ,” says Sander van't Noordende, CEO of Randstad. “And if you look at the skills that people are most eagerly seeking in the workplace, technology in general and AI in particular are at the top of their agenda,” he adds.

The most sought-after skills for workers are AI, IT and technology, wellbeing and mindfulness, communication and presentation skills, and management and leadership , according to the Randstad study.

The priority that employees give to acquiring these skills is, however, subject to considerable variation across the 34 different markets assessed in its report by Randstad . In the United States, for example, management and leadership skills are the most sought-after skills by employees in the workplace, followed by wellbeing and mindfulness, AI, IT and technology, coaching and mentoring, communication and presentation, and programming and coding.

In China , meanwhile, the skills that workers most want to acquire are AI and data science . In addition, in the Asian giant, 81% of employees say that the companies they work for are actually helping them develop their skills in areas such as AI. On a global scale, however, this proportion is only 52%.
